"The Boys of Baraka" follows a group of extraordinary 12-year-old boys from the most violent ghettos of Baltimore who are chosen to attend an experimental
boarding school in Kenya. Many have developed emotional problems and violent tendencies as a result of coming from broken homes or being raised by
parents with drug addictions or criminal records. Removed from these influences, the school presents a strict academic and disciplinary program that
allows them to face their issues and begin the journey toward putting their lives on the right track."

Dear Sophomore Parents/Guardians,

To supplement our Unit on Catholic Social Teaching and Racism I will be showing a documentary “Boys of Baraka” in class.
It provides a current picture of racism as it exists locally by profiling 4 inner city boys from Baltimore who go to Africa because
it is a safer environment than their neighborhoods and they will receive a better education.

It is rated ‘R’ for one instance of coarse language.

You can go to this PBS link for more information on the documentary.:  http://www.pbs.org/pov/boysofbaraka/?gclid=CPCx9o_xl6ACFd1L5Qod0GpRgg
